Sneak Peek: The Building of Queen Victoria
Posted on 09. Mar, 2007 by Ralph Grizzle in Cunard Line, Video
This past weekend, I visited Venice, Italy, to tour Cunard Line’s Queen Victoria, which was under construction in Marghera, Italy — on the mainland shore just west of Venice.Rai Calouri, executive vice president of fleet operations for Cunard Line, took me and other journalists on a walk-through of the ship, which, as you’ll see in the videos that follow, was little more than a hull with beams of steel and dangling wires.
Queen Victoria comes into service in December, and her debut will mark the first time that three Cunard queens will be sailing at the same time. The other two queens, of course, are Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2.
At a cost of $522 million, Queen Victoria will feature some exciting innovations including private viewing boxes in the Royal Court Theater, alfresco dining for Grill guests, a floating museum display of Cunard memorabilia (Cunardia), and a two-story library with nearly 6,000 books.
On January 6, Queen Victoria will embark on her first World Cruise, the 106-day Pathway to the Explorers voyage.
